First Responders Support Group
Hello,
I am Kerry L. Brooks, Founder and President of Team Autism 2 Awesome Inc, and “We Train The World To Be First 2 Respond.” I want to share my personal journey with you about our son who was diagnosed with autism thirteen years ago. As a father, I struggled with the diagnosis of our son. Yet our family’s greatest crisis became our greatest miracle.
As a result of our faith, love, and commitment our son continues to improve. To help our son, we designed Autism 2 Awesome Activity programs, which include free style play, physical activities using our own original music and our children book “Daddy & Me." Today he is participating in honor classes and preparing for college.
Based on research and extensive first-hand experience we developed Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) programs designed to teach day-to-day real life coping skills. Participants will benefit from learning how to make the brain more efficient by using neuroplasticity, how to communicate effectively, how to reduce stress, how to verbally de-escalate many situations, and how to elicit appropriate social behavior.
Additionally, we provide specialize training to fathers with special needs children. My twenty five plus years as a federal law enforcement special agent and trainer has provided me with a unique insight into the struggles many families and communities are facing today. We have used our experience to consult and train our autism community regarding the safety of our special needs family. Our programs have been presented and well received by national organizations in the United States and West Africa.
We are the first and only professional autism organization represented at the International Association Chiefs of Police (IACP) conference in 2014 and 2015. By the way, this is the largest law enforcement conference in the world and was addressed this year by President Obama. In 2011, we partnered with the Phoenix Police Department and developed a DVD on Mental Health Crisis for more than fifteen thousands first responders in Arizona. We are passionate about empowering other families, and I am convinced we can change lives by working together.
We provide consultation & training for parents, social service organizations, schools, churches, faith based community programs, and youth sports programs as well as first responders. One out of every 45 American school age child is on the autism spectrum disorder (ASD), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Moreover, many more children are suffering from intellectual and development disabilities. Currently, there is no known cure for autism, but there are many benefits gained from learning life skills to help children reach their personal best potential.
Warmest Regards,
Kerry L. Brooks
